My Reflections
Tech Park was my first renovation project with ENFRA. It was cool to work on a building I've passed by many times throughout my life. In that way, it made the experience more personal and fulfilling. My top three takeaways:
1. I love renovation projects
Living in the city, I've always seen abandoned buildings slowly rotting away. I felt bad for the structures - once living in purpose and now forgotten history. With community centers reduced due to funding and homeless individuals surviving on the streets, I often dreamed of how repurposing those abandoned could improve the health of our community.
Working with Tech Park served as my gateway into grasping the renovation process from funding to preservation approaches across disciplines - new calculation considerations to existing building standards and codes. It was an exciting and challenging opportunity that deepened my desire to work more with renovation projects.
2. Understanding a project's constraints allows for more creative freedom.
Investing in the research of relevant codes and standards for this project as well as spending time to get a fix on the owner's wants and needs allowed us to curate a creative and resourceful mechanical design. We visited the site for ourselves as well to get a feel for the existing building and grasp the space constraints of new ductwork, piping, and equipment selections.
